Guitar Mixing Tips | Thicker Sounds | Paul Simmans

In this tip, Pyramind instructor Paul Simmans shows you multiple techniques you can use to thicken up your guitar sounds. He uses both an acoustic guitar and a distorted metal track to exhibit his techniques.

First, he demonstates the effect of duplicating a track, and why this alone is not sufficient for beefing up a sound. Then, Paul shows you how to apply the Hass trick by delaying a duplicated guitar track by a small amount of time, and panning both tracks hard left and right.

Next, he demonstrates how much of a difference doubling can make. He also notes that varying the sound of each guitar layer can have a big effect on a mix. Choosing different guitars, amps, or mic placements can thicken up a sound a lot.
