Susie Johnson - Pyramind Scholarship Winner

Congratulations 2020 Pyramind Scholarship Winner – Susie Johnson

Thank you to everyone who applied! We received an overwhelming number of submissions for our May 2020 Electronic Music Producer Scholarship and today, we are excited to announce the winner:

Susie Johnson

Susie Johnson hails from New York state however she considers herself to be a worldly person.  She has lived in many different places, including Europe, England, and Russia, she speaks four languages and is a budding DJ, music producer, and vocalist.

Her journey in music started when she sang in the choir at school and learned how to play the guitar, drums, and piano.  Her first songs were written at the age of 15 and over the last couple of years, she has had the opportunity to turn this hobby into something more professional. She’s been building global experience by releasing tracks on foreign labels and holding down DJ residencies at clubs and parties in Russia.

Susan has gone all-in on this journey as she turned down work in her current country of residence to specifically come and study at Pyramind.  She felt after researching schools all over the world that Pyramind was the best fit due to our in-depth programs, mentors, and the overall community.

Pyramind’s Thoughts

Susan provided a wonderful application essay and video that truly showcased her love and passion for music.  We were highly impressed with the level of work she has accomplished in such a short amount of time.  It was wonderful to see a young musician challenging herself by writing the music, lyrics, and recording her own vocals across three completely different styles of music.

Her positivity and energy will certainly be a welcome addition to our tight-knit family and we are thrilled to have her on board!

Watch her reaction to winning to see how inspiring she is and why we feel great about the choice of awarding Susie as this year’s recipient of the Pyramind EMP Scholarship:

Ramon Wesselink

One of Pyramind’s most powerful assets is the quality of its student body, and Ramon Wesselink is one of the best examples. Ramon was born and raised in a small village in the east of Holland. After years of performing and recording music during his youth, he moved to the Bay Area and enrolled in Pyramind. While still a student he held internships at both Pyramind and AudioSFX in Marin county, where he now works on projects ranging from “Watchmen” to “Star Wars”, video games to rock albums, and psytrance to TV commercials. He also appears on the new Pyramind community compilation “Evolution One”, released at the start of this year, under the alias “Esoteknic.”

Andrea Iacopini

Andrea Iacopini moved to San Francisco by way of Bologna, Italy. Like many Pyramind students, he began playing music at the age of 6, when his parents pushed him to play violin and study “Solfeggio” (or sight-singing). Years later, his uncle gave him an old, used electric guitar for his birthday, and everything changed. After playing in a number of bands in Italy, some of which even drew media and label attention, Andrea moved to San Francisco to attend Pyramind and advance his knowledge of audio recording.

He talked to us about his experiences at Pyramind, what he’s learned, and how it’s helped him as a musician and audio industry professional.
